Known as the "Cellist with Golden Fingers" throughout the musical community. He has performed both as a soloist and with a chamber orchestra. Mohannad Al Zahabi is also one of the founders of Symphony Quartet. Mohannad was raised in Damascus, Syria, the son of a well known double bass player Ibrahim Al Zahabi. His extraordinary talent and love for the cello became apparent at a very early age. He won the National Young Music Competition in Damascus for three years in a row. Mohannad studied cello under Professors Pavel Kopin and Rasim Abdul Laev, and received a Fine Arts degree at the Damascus Music Institute. In 1990 Mohannad won the first national scholarship from the Syrian Government to study cello anywhere in the world. He decided to attend the world famous Moscow State Conservatory, P.I. Tchaikovsky in Moscow, Russia. There he studied under Professor Igor I. Gavrish. In 1998 Mohannad earned his Master Degree of Fine Arts. Mohannad has been performing with internationally known conductors and soloists such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Christopher Eschenbach, Pierre Boulez, David Robertson, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Cliff Colnot, Michael Gielen, Bill Eddins, Pinchas Zukerman and Daniel Barenboim. Mohannad is also a master of Arabian music, performing with such super star singers as Fairuz in the Middle East and North Afrrica and Yassuo N'Dour in his 2005 National fall tour in the USA.
